I turned free roadside stall quinces into jam - the best batch I have ever made. Super thick and tastes really good. Such a pretty jewel colour too.
A quick banana cake on Sunday afternoon. Trying really hard not to let anything go to waste. We always seem to have a surplus of bananas round here.
Vanilla cupcakes for George from a very clever friend - edible decorations on top of buttercream icing. Say no more! The kids loved them.
Freshly picked mushrooms from the garden. Mr H is going to eat them, me not so game.
Have planted in my winter vegetable patch. After keeping the soil covered in grass clippings for the last 6 months and then mixing through sheep poo and compost the soil is so much more healthier than last year. It was so compacted and dry but now is perfect for winter planting. I've planted savoy cabbage, silverbeet and kale. My sister n law Em is going to plant different vegetables in her garden so we can swap produce when the time comes.
I have only planted half the vegetable garden as I thought it would be too big, but I'm now thinking I may need more room. I still have the patch under the apricot tree planted up. I put down stepping stones to make it easier to navigate over the wetter months. And a border down one side of marigold plants.
An old Dove Cote from our neighbours. I've been cleaning it out and will put in some hay for any new bird families that may want to take residence over the winter. Hanging bird seed feeders are next.
Yay! It's that time of year again.........Feijoa season!
Farmers market bread and tomatoes for lunch.
Snippets from around our home.......
My growing washi tape pile. Love the stuff! I have had a couple of months of Birthday and Swap parcel wrapping and I love being able to use my washi tape.
Hope your weekend was a good one, here's to a happy week!
Yay for jam and that bread looks Yummo ok so do those cakes...♥ beautiful photos x
ReplyDeleteThat jam looks positively gorgeous:) I love hearing about your Winter planting which reminds me I must get out and start some much needed planting. I really really like washi tape too and have got a little bit of a collection:) Enjoy your Monday. x
ReplyDeleteYour quince jam is like a jewel in the sunlight. We are planting new veg too and also going to pave second hand bricks in a herringbone pattern around the plot before winter sets in xx
ReplyDeleteLots of happy little bits - looks domestically bliss!
ReplyDeleteWhat an appetising post. Love the look of your quince jam. I always peel and then freeze any old bananas for use in cakes and muffins later on.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, I will do this. I wouldn't have thought to peel them though so thank you xo
DeleteThose cupcakes are amazing! So is your quince jam, what a wonderful colour, especially with the light shining through it!! xx
ReplyDeleteI've been hunting high and low for Quinces but I can't seem to find any even at farmer's markets so I'm totally jealous! The colour is divine! I bet it tastes amazing too!!!
ReplyDeleteI have some quinces in my fruit bowl waiting to be made into jam. yum!
ReplyDeleteI've planted some silver beet seedlings out. I'm still waiting for the butternut pumpkins and tomatoes to finish up and then i'll pop in some more plants. I'm thinking maybe carrots, beetroot and kale.
ReplyDeleteThe quince jam looks stunning. x
Quince jam is my absolute favourite jam ever. I hope my quince tree will carry fruit this year. I have never heard of Feijoa. Must google and try and source some to try. Have a lovely week. Cx
ReplyDeleteThis all looks very yummy! :) x
ReplyDeleteGosh the colour of that jam! I've just walked home from school past a guava tree overflowing, so tempted to knock on their door :)
ReplyDeleteLove the garden and the produce from the garden that you are putting into use .. .. ..
Beautiful slow post full of love
That jam is a gorgeous colour! Love to see your garden start as well! New gardens are so exciting aren't they? Lovely mushrooms as well :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea on the stepping stones! Think I may have to borrow it
ReplyDeleteFeijoa? I have never heard of those. Just Googled it - pineapple guavas! That's my new tidbit of information for the day. I've never seen quince jam either - what a color!
ReplyDeleteThey are so delicious, the season for them is really short and people here go crazy for them. So many people have trees of them in our town so you will always have a ready supply to hand. xo
DeleteSo how did those mushrooms go? No strange side-effects? We often find wild mushrooms here but don't have the knowledge to know it they are edible or not. Your jam is very pretty - great work!!
ReplyDeleteThey are still sitting in the bowl, I think he may have chickened out! xo
