Succulents in Crown Lynn cups

I've never been very good at keeping indoor plants, they tend to die a long and slow death.  I love having fresh flowers inside but as far as plants go, up until today I had only one lonely succulent occupying our home.

Now, as some of you long time readers may have worked out, I have a (ahem) bit of a thing for Crown Lynn crockery.  In particular cups and saucers.  I have a small pile of cups with no saucers so I thought that they would be perfect to house a some succulents in.

I put a few stones in the bottom of each cup and filled with potting mix and a succulent each.  These need limited watering so they don't require a hole in the bottom for drainage.

I now have my three Crown Lynn cups potted up with a pretty succulent and they will sit quite happily I think on the Granny Cabinet.

I have more cups to fill and maybe the odd Teapot too.

How are you with indoor plants?  Flourishing or flailing?

Any ideas for different types of planting "vessels"?  I always liked the look of plants in old boots by the front door.

  2. This is a great idea and I will most certainly copy you. I have orchids, they are easy to keep and need little care. My favourite is flowering just now, after 2 years of being dormant. It has a heavenly scent. I also like succulents because of their fleshy leaves. My kids have cacti, the most forgiving of all house plants (but we still managed to kill a few).

  4. This is a really nice idea. I love the eclectic look of it. I have been eyeing little succulents lately myself, I love the colors of them and there are so many interesting types. The cups are very pretty, their colors are soft and fresh.

  6. So sweet! And just the kind of low maintenance gardening I can handle about now, with three weeks until babies due date. All the plants on my deck died during the first trimester from neglect. There are all these empty pots waiting sadly until Spring for some love and attention. But a cup and a succulent on my kitchen windowsill might be just the thing to distract me from the empty terracotta pots! xx

  8. I have lots of succulents outside, haven't tried them inside yet. Yesterday I actually bought myself a new plant for inside, after years of having none, I have decided I need something alive inside, husband, children and a cat don't count. Have a fabulous weekend.

  12. I used to be ok with houseplants. Then I had children, and the poor plants either got knocked over by them, eaten by them (yuck) or forgotten to be watered by me.
The children are thankfully well past the eating plant soil stage, but I haven't reintroduced too many plants. Mainly because we've had (laminate) wooden floors laid and I'm petrified I'll over water the plants, it will spill on the floor, seep into the join and the floor will be ruined!
    Have a lovely weekend,
    Jill
