My previous batches have burnt and there have been many jars of runny jams produced. They just never wanted to set. I assumed if you moved to the country you could automatically make jam, ha!
After been given a huge bag of plums, too many to eat, and not wanting them to go to waste I decided to give jam making another go.
I watched it like a hawk this time and stirred constantly so it would not burn. And voila, three huge jars of plum jam. Not a "fruit coulis" in sight!
When our peaches are ready I would love to have another go. I'm keen to get a good pan with a heavier base for future use and smaller jars as they would make great gifts.
Do you jam?
Tell me your secrets!
I'm not a jam maker, but I am a jam eater, and your plum jam looks lovely!! Well done you for keeping on persevering with this. Hope that your peach jam is just as lovely. xx
ReplyDeletemmmmm Jam LOVE jam and love plums.i make Jam but in the Thermomix it took me few tries about the third attempted I got it..believe me I was skipping around the room with excitement super proud hahahaha.
ReplyDeleteive been stocking up on jars to preserve hubbys request is pickled eggs {I grew up on these} but my chooks all died last year miss them need to get my self new hens ! I ate a egg from the shop and well it tasted yuck after having chooks of your own...your photos in your header look so pretty .xo
I am a jam maker. One of my favourite things to do. After many years of jam (and jelly) making I have come to the conclusion that the result is entirely random, or quite possibly depends on uncontrollable (esoteric?) factors. Dancing a jig whilst stirring the jam? Wearing something yellow? Seeing a red squirrel in the garden? Who knows! Last year for example I made two batches of strawberry jam (picked on the same day), The first batch came out so well that I did exactly the same for the second batch (on the same day!) and guess what? It was so runny that I had to pour it back from the jars the next time and cook it longer. Happy eating, your plum jam looks delicious! Cx
ReplyDeleteI agree with Christina! Jam is entirely random. Lucky it tastes just as yummy on warm fresh bread (preferably white!), as it does set! x
ReplyDeleteHappy 2014 beautiful. I hope this year is just filled up with the very best and then some more just for you gorgeous. xx Ps - nope I have never made jam...hmmm...but seeing your lovely batch...maybe it's time to have a go too.
ReplyDeleteHurrah! You've earned your JAM badge! I'm about to go again today. I've decided the only safe way for anything other than marmalade is to use Jam setting sugar. Or chuck in a big splodge of pectin. Bring on Feijoa session. YUM. xo
ReplyDeleteJam setting sugar is my secret - I don't think I've had ah failure yet. I've been eyeing up cheap strawberries and nectarines - thinking I must make some more.
ReplyDeleteI was a jammer but not this year. Had my tonsils out Jan 26? last year and it is far too sweet for e now. Marmite saved the day on toast. No longer like milk either so cereal out too ( and more:( ). Have jam stockpiled from last year... Was one of my favourite summer things to do. Do make peach chutney though.
ReplyDeleteWay to go! I have made jam twice now and I think part of my success with the second batch came from making sure I cooked it long enough. It seems to take longer than I think it will.
ReplyDeletemmmmm - i'm yet to attempt it! but yay for you!!! am sure it tastes delicious x
ReplyDeleteMy MIL is my supplier of persevered fruit and veg. I've succeeded at chutney but not jam.
ReplyDeleteThese look delicious, good on you! x
OH YUM!!! They look fantastic lady! I am giving you a huge high-five right now!!! I don't jam yet but my grandmother was a jammer and my brother has recently started...so it won't be long before I jump in too! You have inspired me!! Happy week friend! Nic xoxo
ReplyDeleteYum! It looks great! I've only made jam once, actually a quince jelly. It was perfect and I'm sure it was beginners luck, so I'm too scared to try again! On my last jar and I made it 4 years ago.
