Never too old for a doll

Here she is, arrived in the post yesterday.  It honestly felt like Christmas opening the parcel.  My very own Tiny Eyes doll.  Handmade by Dee.

I have been a fan of Dee's dolls since seeing them on her blog a while back.  I contacted her a few months ago and ordered two dolls.  One each for my boys.  I said there was no hurry as I would be putting them away for Christmas.  After constantly stalking her doll albums I contacted Dee again and asked when she had a custom spot free if she could make a doll for me.  She said she had come across a retro sheet that she thought I might like.  Perfect.

Even though Bell is now a teenager (and more in love with One Direction than dolls) and I have two boys there was no way I wanted to miss out.

I love this doll and keep sneaking looks at her.  Look!  She has leather shoes and her face is hand painted.

I got the eye rolling from Bell.  Mr H does not "get it".  I'm not sure if Mr H will allow her on the bed so she can sit on the draws and stare down at him instead, ha!

I can't wait for the boys dolls to arrive.  I will give you a tiny sneak peek before they are wrapped up and put away for Christmas.......

Do you ever buy things for your children that you secretly want yourself?

What are you coveting right now?

I wonder if I WILL actually give the boys their dolls.....?

*** This is not a sponsored post, just wanted to share Dee's clever handmade goodness!

  1. Such works of art, aren't they? You can tell so much attention to detail goes into them. Never mind the girls, I want one for me too, it's on my list :).

  2. Your doll is lovely. I have no children, but sometimes buy children's books that I loved as a child or wish that I had had as a child and sometimes give them as gifts to children I know - sometimes I just keep them (the books, not the children!!).

No children yet but I do love collecting childrens books and have started a little collection of vintage baby clothes for 'one day'.

  4. She is gorgeous. Her dolls are amazing and I have often thought I would love one for me and one for The Girl. I have a secret yearning for my very own collection of Sylvanian Family animals, furniture and houses ....

  5. How gorgeous!! I love that she has leather shoes. Her dress with lace detailing is very sweet. When I bought my girls their doll house, I must admit, I was a tiny bit thrilled myself after having wanted one all through my childhood years :)

  10. Gorgeous! Love her hair and her face! Nothing wrong with having dolls as a grown up. I have a small cabinet of collectible Barbie dolls. I love changing their outfits. I love to buy wooden toys for my son, particularly food. He has an awesome picnic set with cake and sandwiches and cupcakes. I definitely bought because I wanted to play with it.

    2. I'm a special needs (literacy specialist) teacher ...so where do I start??

I'll start with my Matilda's most recent loves...have you read the Anna Hibiscus series? There are four books in it...about a little girl in Africa. Matilda adored them...so did I!We have also read our way through The Magic Faraway Tree Series and got them on CD for the car - read by Kate winslett - they are fabulous.

Picture books - Keep Love in Your Heart Little One by Giles Andreae; Where on Earth is the Moon? Ruth Martin...You, me and the Rainbow by Petrea King and my very favourite at the moment Have You Filled Your Bucket Today...a must for every household me thinks :)

      Happy reading :) xx

    3. I love the Magic Faraway Tree Series - I have collected the Georgina Hargreaves illustrated books. Here is a link to a post I did last year: http://alittlebitcountrynz.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-magic-faraway-tree.html

I love the idea of a CD for the car. Will look up your other recommendations. Thank you! xo

    4. Ha! Yes...these are the ones we have too. I got them before I was even pregnant caus eI loved them so much. We also got the Wishing Chair and the Wishing Chair Again. We love them. I had Secret Seven ones the same when I was growing up too. The Post Office in Australia sells the CD's around Christmas time. They were not expensive and there are about 17 CD's included. They are on constant re-run and it means the car is quiet gentle time too.
