To op shop we go

I popped into a couple of op shops while in town last week and came away with some bargains.  I come across quite a bit of Crown Lynn and other treasures but only buy it if it is a bargain price or I really "need" it.

Crown Lynn cup and saucer.  A bamboo print on the saucer and my favourite tulip shaped cup.  $1 for the set!

Two sweet embroidered napkins for my growing napkin stash.  Only 50cent for the pair.

A round retro basket - love the lining!  50 cents.

A patchwork sewing basket.  Perfect for odds and ends.  Only $1.

Hooray!  Two souvenir linen tea towels for $2 each.  These are both huge.  I'm thinking of including these two in the Travelling Linen Stash when it heads to Australia - it is currently somewhere in New Zealand.........

(if you are in Australia and want to add your name to the list for the Travelling Linen Stash - you are welcome to join in as it is still making it's way around the NZ list.  Just drop me an email with your address details).

Op shop show off........milk glass

I have been eyeing up Mel and Zara's amazing milk glass collections for a while now, but I've never come across any in the op shops.  I have seen pieces on-line but am more in love with the idea of coming across a dusty piece while out and about.

I stumbled across my first milk glass item while on holiday.  Sitting amongst dozens of bits n bobs.  A bit dusty and with some dubious marks.  All washed off easily and at $4 I'm really pleased.

I love it and hope to be able to start my own milk glass collection.  I'm going to go by the mantra........

"If I collect it, more will come".

I'm going to need a bigger granny cabinet.

Op shop show off..........Harrods tins

When I first moved to London, one of the first places on my "must see" list was Harrods.  I only knew of a few people who had ever been and was envious of their Harrods shopping bags that they carted back with them.

I lived in London for 5 years and made lots of visits, sometimes for hours at a time, stopping only briefly for tea and cakes in one of the many cafes before moving onto the next floor.  I often took goodies home from the Food Hall along with a shopping bag or two that I still use and a couple of tea towels.  On one of my last visits before we moved back to NZ (5 years ago now, time flies) I bought the two cream coloured Harrods tins as mementos.

Since being back I have come across the 3 green tins, ranging from 50cents to $1.50.  I always keep an eye out for them and am hoping to add to my (nana) collection.  I have them displayed (gathering dust) on the top shelf in our kitchen.  I love looking at them as they always bring back great memories of my time in London and that treasure trove in Kensington........Harrods.

Have you been to Harrods? What did you buy?  Were you blown away by the food hall and the people watching?

Op shop showoff.........linen stash

I was thinking a few weeks ago that I never come across any great linen tea towels or table cloths.  I see some amazing ones on Trademe but they are always too expensive.  $20 for one linen tea towel plus postage.....I think not!

So imagine my delight when I called into an op shop in town (and one that I don't visit very often) and they had a table set up with piles of doilies and linen.

I came away with serviettes (50cents a pair), tea towels ($2 each) a couple of them don't look like they have been used.  The small square table cloth was $2.   And my favourite finds, the two Australian themed table cloths.  The largest one with the map was $8 - more than happy with that price.  The fabric is a heavy linen and by the look and feel of it I don't think it has been used.  Same with the pretty Australian wild flowers table cloth which was $4.

One great linen stash makes for a very happy lady!

Op shop showoff..........sunny

These would have to be my favourite retro pillowcase finds yet!  As new, I don't think they have been used.  They are bursting with retro colour.  I'm sure we had a similar wallpaper in the kitchen of the house I grew up in.

Yellow, orange and white coloured flowers on crisp fabric.

Sunny and bright.  Perfect for brightening up a winter bedroom.

$4 for the pair.  Chuffed.

Op shop show off..............a retro coffee set

Another Midwinter find.....

It's a muddy brown, not the deep chocolate brown I usually like. The cups are huge and kind of clunky.  A little ugly perhaps?  But I love the brown flowers and the quirky coffee pot lid.  Plus it was only $10 for the whole set!

I had to have a sort and move around to fit this in the granny cabinet.  There is definitely no more room at the inn - "I must not buy anymore crockery"..........

Op shop showoff............

My little photo bomber.

4 little brown pottery mugs found for 50 cents each.

Half the size of your average mug makes them perfect for little hands to hold milo and warming hot chocolate.

Very useful for mum and dads strong morning coffee too.
