Around the garden

We have a severe weather warning in place for this afternoon.  Whether it reaches us or not is yet to be seen!  It has started raining now so we will just have to wait and see.

Over the past few days we have had lots of great sunny spells.  We have been outside as much as possible.  I've been weeding and planting and deciding on what to plant next and where.  I'm hoping to successfully transfer some of the rosemary around to the front.  It grows in abundance and is happy left to its own devices.  I love low maintenance plants.  The raised vege boxes have been cleared and will be filled with strawberries and blueberries.

My vege garden (as always) needs some TLC.  I have been neglecting it, but with the warmer weather nearing I feel more motivated to work in it.

My very strange hydrangea plants are heavy with flowers.  I'm hoping that this corner will be filled with these, my favourite flower.  I'm hoping that they fill out more and keep flowering.  I have already had to re plant them once (this time a little lower so they stay sturdy) thanks to our pooch Maybell digging them up.

The blossoms are turning to bright green leaves - I can't wait for the fruit to appear.  We have plum, apricot and two different types of peach trees.  The apricot tree was heaving last year, fingers crossed it does the same again.

This week while Bell has been at school and Tom at Kindy, George and I have been pottering around.  The make shift ramp above that Bell found has been worth its weight in gold!  Hours of fun and George just loves it.  He drags his bike up the stairs and scoots down with his feet held high.  So cute to watch.

I'm not green fingered but I really enjoy it.  I love being outside digging around.  I find it really calming and like the fact that I have something other than the house and kids to focus on.  I like that the boys come and dig/weed by me  Getting dirty and having a natter.  What's more I seem to be getting more and more successful when it comes to keeping plants alive.  Although I seem to weed more than anything else at the moment.

Do you love your garden?
Am I turning more and more into a nana?  I don't have knee rests and a "gardening hat"..............yet?!

  1. You are so lucky to have a large FLAT section with no neighbours closing you in. I wished I loved gardening as much as the thought of having a beautiful garden. I don't think you're a nana, it's great that you enjoy it.

  4. I favour those kneepads that velcro round your legs and I have a number of strange hats. Less 'Nana' - more 'Day Release'!

  5. I think I love the idea of gardening more than actual gardening, though I'm getting more interested with the kids now. We've just put some veggies in and I'm looking forward to them growing and being able to pick and eat our own produce. I don't think you're a Nana. I would love one of those knee rests, just sounds smart to me!

  7. Nothing wrong with turning into a Nana - have been since I went flatting in my 20's. I love having my own home now and space to grow what I want.

  9. Everybody needs a gardening hat - everybody! Get a funky straw one with an extra funky scarf to tie around it! Not at all Nana-ish! Although I would be inclined to agree with you about the knee rest! I love Hydrangeas!! Xx

  10. You have a lovely garden. I find gardening calming too, even though I haven't got a clue what I'm doing. x

  11. oh, I adore hydrangeas! I think your garden is lovely. Do the boys not run off? Or is that just my crazy monkeys? I can't keep a single thing alive in the garden. Not even mint. It's disgraceful. But there is a house near me whose front garden is absolutely awash with hydrangeas. They are so beautiful. Last year, I used to drive by really slowly just to look at them. This year, I think I may summon the courage to knock on the door and ask if I can buy armloads! x

    1. Georgie is our runner. Tom has always even as a little guy just stayed at my side. George sometimes climbs over the fence and makes a run for it. Our pooch follows him and lets us know where he is. Definitely go and knock on the door. Lots of people don't like hydrangeas and would probably be more than happy for you to pick them. xo

  12. O.M.G!!!! I just fashioned a knee rest out of some foam and thick plastic we have in our garage. My mum had a spare wide brimmed hat. I am turning into a gardening nana... at 29... without having any children (yet). Gardening is in, it's the new black. HA HA XXX

  13. Love the hydrangeas, mine has now flowered for years and looks pretty sick, so whatever you are doing to yours it is obviously working well - perhaps I need a doggie to dig mine up from time to time!! Hope that the severe weather warning didn't come to anything.

  14. You have a lovely patch there and I can just imagine an abundance of hydrangeas....so pretty! Also I have to admit I'm a bit jealous of your mature fruit trees, it sounds glorious! I love my garden, and I often find solace there, whether I'm digging or walking around it checking on its growth :) Also I've been a Nana for ever! Mike loves to mock me about it too ;)
