Dreaming of............a retro caravan

I'm dreaming of................. a retro caravan.

It's been on my wish list for ever!

I dream of finding an old beauty and restoring it.  Inside and out.  Renovating it with original features, fresh paint and pretty fabrics.  I would park it under our trees in the garden.  And then at the start of summer tow it out to the beach.  We have Freedom camping here on the coast over summer season.  All you need to do is buy a permit (fairly cheaply) from the council and from October till March you can park up your caravan for the summer.

It would make a great extra room in the garden for visitors or somewhere to go with a good book and a pot of tea (or a bottle of wine) and relax.

Are you lucky enough to have a retro or vintage caravan?  Is it on your wishlist?

  1. We picked up a cheapish 1970's caravan for our trip around Australia a year and a bit ago. It's called Matilda and I love her. Unfortunately, she has sat neglected in the driveway for a year, my dreams of decking her out like those awesome photos above put on hold while I had another baby. One day I will restore her to her former glory.....I hope you find one x

  2. I'd love one too. In primary school, one of my playmates had an old van in their backyard as a cubby house. I didn't appreciate it for it's vintage features back then!

  4. how fab are they???!!!..our family had a 1960`s one we holidayed in thru the 70`s and 80`s....I was always a little embarrassed that it was old and not as slick as the new shiny ones that used to pull into the camping grounds and was pleased when my parents finally upgraded...what I wouldn't give to have that beauty back!! x

  5. Oh you and me both Elaina. I have wanted a little retro caravan for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately hubby doesn't share my enthusiasm.

  6. Oh me too absolutely, but no where to store it unfortunately. I found some paintings my mum kept from kindy when I was four and it was reams of vintage caravans (except back then they would not have been vintage!) so it is obviously a long term love. Hope one turns up for you, then we can all live vicariously through the makeover. mel x

  7. No way! You can buy a permit and park at the beach! That is fantastic! Loving all of your inspiration...that would be so neat to have in the garden as an extra room! Awesome!

  8. A van is on my 'one day' wishlist.
I would love to have one as a little giftware type shop and another with a kitchen setup inside, perfect for markets.

  11. Ok, I am a little bit in love with that scenario you've created there! Wow, a garden big enough to hold a caravan, and freedom camping on the beaches in the summer..incredible. Those images are gorgeous too - love the way they look at night all lit up with fairy lights. x

  12. Love these images....but I don't think that my lot would fit in one of these!! Maybe I should just get one for me to hid away in and decorate as I wish!! Great idea for the freedom camping, but do you still have to pay to go to a site or do you pull up anywhere? :)

  14. Love love love! We searched for one for 12 months before giving up and buying a slightly younger model. Our Miss Daisy was born in 1972. She's sitting in our shed paddock quietly waiting for us to gut her and put her back together. I see many happy weekends at the beach in our future :)
