A winters day and cosy knits

We have had rain and lots of it, great for the gardens and water tanks.  Not so great when you have two little boys with TONS of energy to burn.

As soon as the heavy rain stops we head outside and if the sun peeks out then we head further a field.

It has been cold, but not cold enough for coats.  So every autumn I put in an order with my mum who is a wonderful knitter.  Something that unfortunately has so far failed to come out in me.

I have a growing pile of Nana knitted wool vests.  I find these are perfect for us.  They allow for busy boys to remain active without feeling constricted.  All the while still staying warm and cosy.

Mum finished the vest that Tom is wearing last week.  It is a very pale green which looks great with the blues, charcoals and grey tops I seem to be leaning towards in colour for Tom.  She has also made it slightly longer so it keeps the tush warm and will hopefully fit him next winter.

George is wearing one knitted last year for Tom. He has the same one, albeit a size smaller.  I've put in another "order" for George, just deciding on colour.

Today after swimming we headed for the Botanical Gardens in town to run around and feed the ducks.  There were also some great pops of colour in the gardens along with monarch butterflies to be seen too.  It always makes for a nice morning out.........provided I take plenty of snacks along, there will be no one complaining that they are dying of hunger!

What do you do in the cooler months to avoid cabin fever?  Are you a knitter or are you lucky enough to have an avid knitter in the family?

  3. What a great job your mum has done, they are lovely. And how lucky are you to have vests on tap! Sounds like you are doing a great job staying sane in the rain. And there is not a speck of mud on those gorgeous knits either. mel x

  7. Lovely vests. I can knit a little but nothing like that! When it rains here in the winter we go to friend's houses, or to the local soft play centre, sort of like a big indoor padded playground where you can get food and coffees too. Great places for the kids to let of some steam when the weather is rubbish. x

  8. I do a little bit of knitting - usually small things like beanies, and fingerless gloves. I have made garments for my children and a fitted jacket for me. I try to walk 3 times a week - we are lucky to live on a peninsula with a reserve walk by the estuary - so I get my fresh air and views there. I have a really easy childs vest pattern if you wanted to try it - thick wool and knits up in less than a week If you're interested send me your address and I'll post you a copy.

  9. Love the vests. I've knitted a few cardigans for the girls but nothing for my son apart from a beanie. I'd love to knit him something (if i can find the time). Can you tell me which pattern your mum knitted?
