We love the Penny Scallan products in our house so we always enjoy reviewing them.  We went with the Big City Design again to go with Tom's Kinder Pack.  Below are the other designs available:





From the moment we unpacked it, it has been a huge hit.  Tom in particular loves hiding away his treasures in bags of any description, so when I got it ready to photograph it was already housing binoculars, a key chain, trains and a notebook.  It has gone off tonight with Tom for a sleepover with cousins and we have been talking about what to pack in it for the Christmas holidays........already.

The Wheelie Bag really is a perfect kiddie size, super light and as always I love that you can wipe it clean.  The front pocket sits flat and is handy for popping in writing paper and books etc for easy reach.  One thing to mention is the handle - very steady, this bag does'nt do the annoying wobble when you walk/run with it.  Got to love that!

Around the garden

My little niece Miss R hanging out in the fairy garden - brushing the horses with a paint brush.

 

Weather wise this week it has been a little grey - spells of rain with brief bursts of sunshine.  Perfect for growing gardens really.  When a brief sunny moment hit this afternoon I popped outside to take some photos.

Everything is looking so green and lush.  The roses are out in all their glory.  My vegetable garden is finally looking like a kitchen garden.  The two raised planter boxes that now house the strawberries are starting to show off delicious ruby red fruit.  The beds of straw and shade cloth have helped I'm sure.

Plums, apricots and peaches are dancing on the branches.  They have yet to ripen and we wait patiently for them to do so.  After numerous preserving disasters this year I am certain that this coming summers crop will not go to waste and I will be able to produce a good batch of jam and chutneys.

My favourite tree in the front garden is now heavy with green leaves and is doing it's job wonderfully when days are hot and bright.  And the fairy garden is bursting with colour,  totally overgrown and looking quite magical.

Bell - Pottering in garden with mum, these blooms may look pretty but they have the meanest thorns imaginable.  We have both found out the hard way.
Tom - he loves her........most of the time.  She bowls him over often, overexcited with all of the running around.

George - dinner outside in the garden.  Pasta - a favourite round here.

It's been a goodie...........this week

 

Look!  Roses from my garden.  My brother showed me how to prune a few months ago and it has made a huge difference.  I'm not afraid to attack plants with the pruners now!  It really is worth the short amount of time where your plants look slightly sad and bald.

 

 

I went to my sewing lesson on Wednesday.  I love going.  The material, the conversation and those ladies are a bit of a highlight for me.  They don't know it yet, but once my lessons finish I will be finding every excuse possible to call into the shop to see Fiona and Noeline.  I was shown how to do triangles, not as scary as I initially thought they would be.  I am however, very familiar with the unpicker.

 

 

Craft night!  I took Bell along to a Christmas Craft evening this week.  We made bunting and crackers.  So nice to be able to spend some quality time with my girl.  She loves her craft and so really enjoyed the night.  We still need to finish our crackers.  Amazing how quickly the time went.  We popped into town for hot chocolates on the way home too.

 

The humble whoopie cushion.  The toy of choice at the moment in our house.  The boys have one each and love them.  Anyone who visits gets the grand demonstration.  At only $2 per cushion - bargain fun!

I bought this card in town this week, I will frame it and put it up in the boys room.  Perfect colours for their blue room.

 

 

Drove past the beach this morning on the way to swimming and saw the first of Cruise Ships for the summer anchored in the harbour.  It was a grey and rainy morning, but the boat still looked spectacular.

 

Dodgy looking pastry, but jeepers this bacon and egg pie was amazing.  An easy Friday night dinner.  Washed down with a glass (or two) of bubbles.  The weekend is here, lots planned.  Feeling excited.

 

It's been busy here.  Not a lot of time for visiting this space or others.  The usual house, garden, family commitments, school, kindy, playcentre, swimming and afternoon activities have been making for full days.  November is busy for us.

 

Tired children, and mum.  I've been falling asleep putting George to bed in the evenings - that time of night is my blogging time.  I've missed it.

A room for the boys

Now the boys are sharing again, their room really needed a bit of overdue TLC.  I'm so pleased it is now finished.  Just a quick makeover.  Some much needed paint and a few added accessories.

 

The walls have been painted in the most delicious blue (British Paints I'm Blue).  It was an easy choice with Tom and Bell both picking the same colour.

 

I stopped in at Briscoe's on Monday with fingers crossed, hoping to get an identical duvet cover for George - thankfully there was one left and it was 60% off too, love it when that happens.  It is part of the Poppiseed range.

 

My best find has been the stripe rug.  The colours are a great match with the walls and curtains.  At only $49.99 (from the Warehouse) it is a bargain.  I can not believe the prices of some children's rugs/mats out there?!  The lampshade (under $30) I found in Bunning's.

 

We will slowly fill up the wall with framed photos, finds, awards and the boys artwork.  I think I will stick with white frames and add the occasional one off colour for a bit of colour pop.

 

I'm really happy with how it has turned out.  A relatively cheap makeover.  The Vineyard were happy to pay for the paint.  I prepped the room and Mr H painted.  I've put a lot of the boys toys away in clear plastic containers and will rotate them.  I have left out their favourites and a few extras.  They love the space and happily play in there.  The large window which covers one entire wall lets in lots of sunlight.

 

Makes for a great boys room!

Bell - Sweet afternoon light - wanted her pic taken too along with the boys.  Ready for her second ballet class this term.  Taken to it like a duck to water.  Ready here in her leotard and cropped cardi.  "Mum, I will do my hair in the car on the way"!
Tom - Arhhhhh me hearties - ready for the Playcentre Trick or Treat night.  He wanted the moustache and beard on all weekend.

George - Batman - his cape kept getting caught in his bike tyres..........even superheros have off days.
